1.  Bearettes rehearsals are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7:50 - 8:55 AM.  This reflects a change in schedule at Burley; please try to have your young ladies in their seats on time if at all possible.

2.  The Bearettes will be purchasing two parts of their uniform this year: shoes and necklaces.  Both will be through the ensemble; the cost is $40.00.  Please make checks payable to Burley Middle School, with your child's name in the memo.  Please send payment as soon as possible!  Please let me know privately if this creates a financial hardship for your family; I am happy to work with you.

3.  Shoe fittings will be Monday, October 12.  Employees of our local dance supply store "The Hip Joint" will be present to fit each student individually.  I am looking for a parent to be on hand to assist as necessary; please let me know if you are available.

4.  Ensemble "Casual Uniform" t-shirts are being designed by Crazy Horse Studio and should be in by November.  The shirts are given to the members free of charge and are required (along with clean jeans and sneakers) for any "casual" concert settings (see below).  The shirts feature the ensemble logo on the front left "badge" area and the year's motto on the back.  This year's motto is "I don't mind if you don't mind / I don't shine if you don't shine / Put your back on me"

5.  Parents and other family members are invited to purchase member t-shirts for themselves.  The cost is $10.00 per shirt.  Contact me if you are interested!

6.  Upcoming events!  Please let me know if you are available to help!

  • Belk Charity Day fundraiser (October – November)
  • Performance at Belk Charity Day (November 7, 9:30 AM)
  • Performance for the “Sing-a-Thon” to benefit the Charlottesville Food Bank.  Possible coordinated effort with the AHS Jazz Band, Kroger, & local radio stations.  I will need parents to help set this up!  (November 19; subject to change)
  • Performance at the Charlottesville Toy Lift (December 4; still being negotiated)
  • Performance at the Paramount Theater (December 5; time TBA)
  • “An Evening with the Bearettes: Lullabyes and Love Songs” (December; time and location TBA)  Parents needed!
  • Charlottesville Goodwill Tour (UVA & Martha Jefferson Hospitals; other locations may include the Charlottesville Rescue Squad, Winterhaven, Barrack’s Road Shopping Center, Jefferson Heights, Westminster Canterbury, and others)  Parents REALLY needed!

7.  The news feature has been added to the channel 19 website:  enjoy it here

8.  Email addresses with have been bounced back whenever the parent list is utilized.  If you are a parent who hasn't been receiving the email update (and you want to), please email me with your current address and I will cheerfully add you.

As always, we are looking for volunteers to help out with the day-to-day operation of the program.  Please let me know if you can help out!
Thank you for the opportunity to work with the girls.  They are getting better every day!

Thank you to all who auditioned.  Mr. Jennings is astonished by your enthusiasm and musicianship!

Congratulations to the 2009 - 2010 ensemble.  Rehearsals will begin Monday, September 21, at 7:50 AM.  Please make every effort to be on time!

August 29, 2009

  • Parent meeting August 31; 6:00 PM.  The spring trip is on the agenda.
  • We will not be sponsoring the dance September 4.  We are, however, looking to sell the local merchant coupon books and participate in the Belk Charity day fundraiser again.
  • Auditions begin September 7!  Sign up outside Mr. Jennings' room.
  • The audio for the official Praan video is being cleaned up and may be posted as early as mid-September.  We'll send a copy to Gary Schyman to see what he thinks!

August 2009

Welcome back!  Audition information will be posted during the first week of school.  There are several ongoing projects for the women this year.  Mr. Jennings is very, very excited to get started!

Among other things, there is a rather large pile of sheet music currently under consideration.  A request is in to the governor for a concert, plans are in the works for a concert at Virginia Commonwealth University, and      Mr. Jennings believes he may have found this year's "Praan." How was your summer?
