Dear Parents and Guardians of the Bearettes,

Hello!  I hope this finds you well and in good spirits!  I still have some emails returning, so I figured it might be a good idea to put this update on paper as well.  Please note:  all events are mandatory unless otherwise noted.

Upcoming Bearettes Events!

Barracks Road Shopping Center Holiday Parade

Friday, November 29

Great news!  We have been accepted into the Barracks Road Holiday Parade on Friday, November 29.  If you're out of town – no problem, but if students are in town that day they should plan to come sing with the Bearettes!  We will wear warm clothes, so bundle up – I'm not worried about travel uniform as we'll be outside.  That written, please avoid jeans with tears, shorts, sandals, et cetera.

We (and any parents who would like to chaperone) will meet in the parking lot behind Buffalo Wild Wings at 8:45 AM on Friday, November 29.  We'll get warmed up and head out with the parade, which begins officially at 9:30 AM.  The route is not long, but we'll sing the whole way!

Performance at the University Lights of Love Event

Thursday, December 12

The women will perform at the University Hospital Lights of Love Event.  This will be full concert dress: black dress, pearls (delivered in the beginning of December), shoes.  Students will take a bus from Burley to the hospital; the performance will begin at 3:30 PM.  Students will require transportation home at the end of the event, which is expected to be from 4:30 – 5:00 PM.  The University is providing refreshments following the concert.  The event (which will be held in the main lobby of the hospital) is free and open to the public, so please come hear the girls!  Also, the concert and event may be covered by the local news services!

An Evening with the Bearettes

Thursday, December 19

This is the Bearettes home concert and will take place in our own auditorium.  The women will be in full concert dress: dress, pearls, and shoes.  Vocalists should arrive no later than 6:30 PM; the concert will begin at 7:00 PM.  The concert is free and open to the public!

The Annual Bearettes Goodwill Tour

Friday, December 20

The women will have regular rehearsal at 7:50 AM to prepare some extra music for the tour.  Students should either pack a healthy, substantial lunch or plan to bring money to purchase food.  Water and snacks will be provided.  Dress code is travel uniform:  Shoes, socks, full length clean unripped jeans, Bearettes T-shirts, and layers of warm clothes (including sweaters, jackets, gloves, scarves, hats, ear-muffs, et cetera!).  Our tour schedule is:

7:50 – 9:00 AM          Rehearsal

9:10                             Depart

9:30                             Performance (tentative) at the Ridge Street Fire Station

10:30                           Performance (tentative) at the Fashion Square Mall

11:30                           Lunch at the Mall

1:00 PM                      Performance at the DoubleTree Hotel

2:00                             Performance at the County Office Building

3:00                             Return to Burley for ICA day, ride buses home!

Performance with the Oratorio Society

Saturday, December 21

The women have been invited by Director and University Choral Professor Michael Slon to perform as guests of the Charlottesville Oratorio at the Paramount Theater!  The women will arrive at the Paramount 12:00 noon to take part in a necessary sound check and rehearsal on stage.  Hopefully, the Paramount will provide a space for the women to change into full concert formal dress; if not, the women will need to arrive ready to go in dresses, pearls, and shoes.

The concert will begin at 2:30 PM.  The Oratorio has reserved complementary seating for the entire chorus (and a very limited number of chaperones).  Unfortunately, the Oratorio is unable to provide tickets for all of our families, but they do offer a terrific deal:  Tickets for two or more K-12 students that are accompanied by at least one paying adult will be $5.00 each.  Otherwise, regular ticket price is $25 for adults, $15 for students.  Following our performance the students will be guests of the Oratorio, which is an excellent opportunity for our vocalists to hone their concept of a formal chorus sound.

All students are required to be in attendance for the entire concert, which is expected to end at about 4:30 PM.

Bearettes vacation!  Rehearsals will not resume until Monday, January 13, 2014

Help is still needed to take on the Recycling Program!

We are saying goodbye to Veena Goodman at the end of the year when her lovely and talented daughter graduates!  We need one or more dedicated adults to take on this very lucrative fundraiser – the ensemble earns an enormous amount of money with this ongoing project and we don’t want to lose our corporate sponsors!  Please, please, please consider helping out!  Don’t hesitate to contact me or Veena at your absolute earliest convenience!
